TACOMA – Job seekers this week will have a chance to get ready for an Aug. 14 job fair at Tacoma Goodwill that will feature The Boeing Company among some two dozen other employers.

Four job fair preparatory workshops will take place, two each on Aug. 2 and 7 at Goodwill’s Workforce Development Office, 714 S. 27th St. in Tacoma. The workshops are free and will cover interview preparation, resume tips, clothing suggestions to impress an employer, and information on career goal setting.

“We have employers coming for the job fair who are searching for a wide variety of candidates,” said Terry A. Hayes, Tacoma Goodwill CEO. “We want our clients and job seekers in the public to have the chance to learn from experts about taking every opportunity to make a good impression.”

About the workshops
On Aug. 2, the workshops will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and 3-4:30 p.m. On Aug. 7, the clinics are scheduled from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 3-4:30 p.m. For information, or for special accommodations, contact Ambrosia Hand, Goodwill Workforce Navigator, at 253.284.0018 or email ahand@tacomagoodwill.org.

The workshops will take place in an open-house style, with stations for each topic area. Participants can register and attend at any time during the sessions and should bring a resume or work history. They will leave “ready to impress” at the job fair, Hayes said.

Job Fair includes Boeing, REI, others
The Tacoma Goodwill Job Fair will take place Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Goodwill Workforce Development Office. A smaller-scale event took place in March and was hailed as a success when more than 250 people attended.

At least that many people could attend the event in August, when employers are hiring for the holiday season. Participants are urged to bring several copies of their resume and be prepared to be interviewed for a job at the event. Contact Hand for additional information.

The Boeing Company, among the companies scheduled to attend the August Job Fair, has a variety of needs to be filled.

“The Goodwill Job Fair provides companies like Boeing with a broad and diverse population of talent to tap into,” said Steve Mueller, senior manager, Boeing Staffing and Recruiting. “At Boeing, we’re looking for enthusiastic people with experience in the assembly mechanic, assembly electrician or aviation maintenance areas who want to build a new generation of airplanes for the largest aerospace company in the world.”

The list of participating businesses, besides Boeing, includes: Starbucks, Safeway, UPS, World Vision, The Home Depot, FedEx, Top Food & Drug, Prologix, Comcast, Taco Bell, Fred Meyer, Menzies Aviation, Gensco, REI, Transportation Security Administration, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, All-Star Fitness, Radio Shack, Korean Women’s Association Sears, Chevron, Taco Del Mar and Staffco.

The job fair is one way Goodwill strives to accomplish its mission of changing lives by helping people go to work, said Hayes.

“Goodwill can provide a natural link for employers to find qualified, experienced applicants for positions they need to fill,” she said. “The job fair is an exciting time for everyone.”
