TACOMA – From bustles to bandeaus, hoop skirts to mini-skirts, volunteers with Tacoma Goodwill’s Golden Oldies group presents vintage fashions spanning a century of styles.
“The shows are not only entertaining but an educational walk through history,” said Mary Kay Manley, Golden Oldies president. “And we work with Goodwill in support of its mission to change lives by helping people with disabilities or disadvantages go to work.”
The group is scheduling its 2009 shows. For information, contact Sally Perkins, Marketing and Communications coordinator, at 253.284.3331 or sperkins@tacomagoodwill.org.
For about 30 years, Golden Oldies members have been raising funds for Tacoma Goodwill’s job- training and placement programs. Proceeds from the shows are used to purchase everything from computer monitors for a Computer Skills class to a floor polisher for custodial training.
Golden Oldies offers vintage fashion and bridal shows as well as a vintage hat show to church groups, schools, retirement communities and local civic groups in a 25-mile area around Tacoma. The shows last about 45 minutes and cost from $75 to $150, although additional donations are accepted.
The shows come complete with models, music and a commentator who provides informative and often amusing commentary on a century of fashion highs and lows. The clothes are all authentic originals from Goodwill’s collections over the years.
