TACOMA – Internship opportunities are needed for skilled warehouse and logistics workers who have completed a 12-week course as part of a new, federally funded partnership between community colleges, local agencies and nonprofit groups.
The Career Pipeline Project in Warehousing and Logistics is a Tacoma Community College-Tacoma Goodwill led effort. The first participants recently completed the course and are available for 120 hours of internships, funded through the program, said Dr. Kathleen L. McDonald, TCC project director.
“The program covers insurance and liability costs, making it easy for companies to preview a potential employee without obligation,” said McDonald. “These participants have qualifications in packing and assembly, safe material handling, forklift operations and other areas.”
Companies with internships available should contact McDonald at 253.460.4419 or by email at kmcdonald@tacomacc.edu.
The Career Pipeline project is funded through a $1.9 million U.S. Department of Labor grant to train workers in the warehousing and distribution industry in Tacoma, Longview and Yakima. Starting in September, the training will be broadcast simultaneously using the Distance Learning Theater in Tacoma Goodwill’s Milgard Work Opportunity Center
