What is it?

Tacoma Goodwill’s Youth Barista Program invites you to learn about the specialty coffee industry, legendary customer service skills, and espresso bar operations and equipment. This Certificate Program is divided into three tiers:
- Tier 1 is a six week course that introduces you to the world of coffee, the demands of a café, and the art of being a barista.
- Tier 2 and Tier 3. These advanced courses further explore the intricacies of creating delicious beverages, providing exceptional customer service, and being an integral member of a team. Participants in Tier 2 and 3 will receive an hourly wage for their work.

When and where?

Training occurs five days a week in The Coffee Buzz – the café located on the first floor of Tacoma Goodwill’s newly opened Milgard Work Opportunity Center at the corner of Tacoma Avenue and South 27th Street.

Who?

The Youth Barista Program is open to at-risk and transitional youth ages 16 – 24. This program relies on collaborative partnerships between Tacoma Goodwill, FareStart, Starbucks, and other partner agencies and local businesses.
