Based off of the National telephone survey conducted by ORC International they found that overall, funny costumes (14%), edge out iconic/classic (10%), minimalist (10%) and matching or group costumes (9%) as the most popular type of costume this year.
If you are looking to make a positive impression at a party or gathering, the costumes to AVOID this year are risqué or overly-sexy costumes, political costumes, sexy but in good taste or gory costumes.
There is a surge of group, family or couples costumes this year. 19% of all adults and 31% of millennials (18-34) plan to participate in a group, family or couples costume this year.
Do-it-yourself costumes are preferred by 51% of respondents over packaged costumes.
