Culinary Skills
Learn the basics of food preparation and cooking, customer service, safety and sanitation in addition to serving and cashiering in preparation for employment in entry-level food service jobs. Students learn in Goodwill’s Neighborhood Bistro which offers an ideal, real-world training opportunity. The program consists of twelve weeks broken into two levels.

Custodial Skills
Goodwill’s Custodial Skills training is a Washington State certified vocational training program designed to prepare students for employment in the competitive custodial and medical cleaning field. Training combines classroom instruction with hands-on training within Goodwill facilities. With a low instructor-to student ratio the program is individually tailored to student needs and students may enroll at any time. All aspects of custodial duties are covered with focus on obtaining proper work skills as well as professional work behaviors. Qualified students may participate in additional Medical Cleaning training, covering specific procedures used in hospital settings. Certification is awarded to students successfully completing the 45 day long course of instruction.

Environmental Job Training
Learn industry standard environmental remediation skills to compete in the competitive environmental field. Students learn in in-classroom and hands-on learning environments. Training can lead to exciting careers in construction, contamination remediation, hazardous material handling and more! The program is 6-weeks with certificates issued upon completion.

All Goodwill program participants are encouraged to learn how to “maximize their potential” by taking advantage of interactive workshops on a helpful range of topics – from resume and interview preparation to job search skills and dressing for success. You’ll learn through role-playing, video tapes, and take home tools, how to prepare for and land your job!

SkillSoft
SkillSoft uses distance learning to provide job relevant training opportunities. Courses are designed to teach new skills or enhance current skills for a variety of career opportunities. Training is completed in an online environment and courses include an opportunity to practice and test new skills. This program is self-monitored and self-paced.

Warehouse, Transportation & Logistics Program
Get on the fast track to a career in warehousing, transportation and logistics with this comprehensive, video-conferenced program taught by Tacoma Community College faculty in the interactive video Distance Learning Theater at Goodwill’s Work Opportunity Center (with broadcasts to the Yakima and Longview Work Opportunity Centers). Approved by local employers, this program provides all the entry-level and career advancement skills needed for this field.

WorkFirst
WorkFirst helps transition people to financial stability and a rewarding career. Participants spend up to six months in the program, which provides skill assessments and on-the-job training, and increases the participant’s professional skills and employability. Participants also receive guidance in developing vocational and educational goals, identifying and eliminating barriers to employment and other support services to help them succeed.

Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)
The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is the only Federal workforce program targeted to unemployed low-income seniors 55 and older. The main purpose of this program is to transition Seniors into unsubsidized employment. It is administered by the U.S. Dept. of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. Seniors accepted into the program will receive job skill training at non-profit or government agencies and help provide additional community service for these agencies, and support them in finding employment.

Barista Training
Learn espresso arts and café operations in a real-world setting at Goodwill’s Coffee Buzz. Tailored around the needs and growing demands of the specialty coffee industry, the Youth Barista Training program will guide you through the basic operations of a café and the skills required to become a barista. The 16 week certificate program is available to youth ages 16-24.

YouthBuild
This youth program emphasizes the importance of education, leadership and job training. YouthBuild helps at-risk young people complete their education by providing GED education classes while simultaneously training for the future in a variety of construction trades. On-the-job training includes building new homes for low-income families in the community. Youth are exposed to industry professionals who help them identify and support the youth in reaching their goals. Program funded 80% ($1.1 Million) by U.S. Dept. of Labor, Employment & Training Administration.

General Education Degree Program (GED for youth 16-21)
This youth program is a dropout reengagement program that provides education and services to youth who have dropped out of school or are not expected to graduate from high school by the age of 21.
