After obtaining her Associate in Arts degree at Tacoma Community College, Kimmy found it difficult to find a job. She had spent nearly a year looking, when a friend told her about Goodwill. Her love of coffee made the Barista Skills program an easy choice of what she wanted to pursue.
Going through the program helped her to overcome barriers which stemmed from the mild form of Asperger’s syndrome which she has. She is now more outgoing and is utilizing the kitchen skills she learned through the program at her new job as a dietary aide at an Alzheimer’s residential home.
When she isn’t working, Kimmy enjoys spending time with her two dogs and volunteering at other assisted living facilities. She also enjoys playing the piano, singing in the community choir and reading. She is excited about the manuscript for a novel she is currently working on. Her long term goals are to either work for a publishing company or to become a librarian.
You can help a Goodwill participant find success through the power of work by
making a financial gift today. Thank you!
