Program Spotlight: Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)
Valerie felt lost leaving her real estate career during the last industry downturn. Determined to rebuild a life for her daughter and herself, she set her sights on training as a life coach – something her clients had noted as a strength. Needing additional computer skills for her career makeover, she suddenly discovered Goodwill offered assistance for persons over 55 through their SCSEP program. Now she has computer skills AND a temporary job with Americorps and Goodwill pursuing her life coaching dream – giving people the right mindset to change their situation.
The SCSEP program offers community service and work-based training for older workers, providing subsidized service-based assistance for low income persons 55 and older who are unemployed and have poor employment prospects. When combined with Goodwill’s other programs, seniors can receive training in office, culinary, barista, catering, retail, custodial, warehouse, transportation, logistics, construction and other careers.
