Success Story: Andrea (Custodial Skills Program)

Before Andrea came to Goodwill of the Olympics & Rainier Region she was discouraged with her employment outlook. “I had completed most of the employment aid programs with DSHS but I wasn’t getting hired. As a last resort, they sent me to Goodwill for the Pathways career development course.”

At Goodwill, Andrea’s job coach assessed her skills and abilities and introduced her to the wide variety of career development services available. Andrea chose to enter the Custodial Skills Program because it was something new for her. She received some help polishing up her resume and with her interview skills, but the most important benefit of the Pathways Program for Andrea was the quality of the job leads she received.

“I had a seasonal job lined up in the Mariner’s office in Seattle even before I graduated. And I got a second full-time job at Madigan Army Medical Center right after I graduated. Goodwill really cares about providing interviews that lead to good jobs. They want you to succeed.”

Andrea is happy with her new job at Madigan and the benefits that come with it. “It’s a living wage. I’m off welfare now because I can provide for myself and my daughter with what I earn. I even get to spoil her a little now!”
